Inferno
Island Shakespeare Festival premiered Bryan Burch's new adaptation of Dante's Inferno in their tenth anniversary season of 2019. The new play blends levity and pathos as it re-imagines a modern Dante, a struggling poet and songwriter. His journey through hell to rediscover life's purpose brings modern thoughts together with very old words to make a poignant and amusing reflection.

Die FledermausThis production of Johann Strauss's comic waltz opera captured the feeling of the 1880s for modern audiences. Characters fumble and twirl within an elaborate practical joke until the triumphant finale.

Elixir of LoveDirected by Octavio Cardenas, this production of Donizetti's comic opera placed the story on Baylor University campus in the 1970s. An Elvis-impersonating mountebank, football captain recruiting officer, and tie-dyed clad hero populate this energetic story.

Prima DonnaArthur Benjamin's comic operetta, staged by Baylor Opera Theatre and directed by Octavio Cardenas, reset the tale of Italian aristocracy as a generational conflict in a Texas oil baron's family. Big hair, bling, fringe, belt buckles, and cowboy boots all play a part in this story of seduction and singing.

Trial by JuryGilbert and Sullivan's lighthearted lighthearted satire, directed by Octavio Cardenas, offered an amusing take on American perceptions of British stereotypes. The Spice Girls clash with Austin Powers while a jury of Beatles and other fictional and popular characters look on.
